Frenotomy with the CO2 laser

In order to be able to offer a state-of-the-art lip and tongue band treatment, a super-pulsed CO2 laser is used in our practice during the treatment, which requires little anesthesia and allows for less painful interventions. The tongue ligament centers use this device to gently, carefully and painlessly separate the lip and/or tongue ligament.

infants, babies and toddlers

The child is swaddled. For laser protection reasons, the eyes are protected with self-adhesive laser protection pads. This is followed by local anesthesia with a numbing gel. After a short exposure time, the head is stabilized and the tape is separated with the CO2 laser in 4-6 seconds.

The child feels pressure during the separation, comparable to a pinching of the skin. Immediately after the separation, the child is pain-free for 3-4 hours due to the laser effect.

The child will be excited after the breakup. The parents calm the child. You can breastfeed or drink immediately after the separation.

Advantages of the super-pulsed CO2 laser

Not all lasers are the same. This list therefore expressly does NOT apply to lasers with other wavelengths.

In addition to the training and skills of the surgeon, the wavelength and pulsation are decisive:

  • Short treatment time tongue band 3-5 seconds lip band 5-10 seconds
  • Low temperature of 90 degrees in the tissue
  • “Welds” nerve endings and vessels
  • No or very little risk of bleeding
  • This gives a good OP overview
  • Wound surface is disinfected, sealed and painless
  • Freedom from pain after separation for 3-4 hours
  • Sealed wound surface facilitates active wound management for controlled wound healing
  • Reduced myofibroblasts and scarring
  • Reattachment risk reduced
  • Hygiene advantage through contact-free therapy
  • Precision of 0.1mm
  • Minimally invasive as it removes cell layer by cell layer
  • Over- or under-therapy is prevented

Almost no side effects

Surgical interventions can be carried out gently with the help of the laser beam and with almost no bleeding or scarring. Since the laser radiation is only strongly bundled light, there is no health risk for the patient. Further advantages are the positive effect of the laser on the local immune system and cell metabolism as well as the promotion of the production of endogenous substances. The release of the happiness hormone endorphin ensures less pain during the therapy.

Does the health insurance pay?

The costs of using a laser are not covered by statutory health insurance. The amount depends on the type and duration of the treatment and will be billed to you privately by the dentist, since he has to bear the investment costs for the purchase of a laser device himself. We will be happy to inform you in detail about all the details and the wide range of applications for laser treatment.
